General description
Native IgD from human myeloma plasma.
Native IgD from human myeloma plasma. Immunoglobulins (Igs) are glycoproteins found in serum and tissue fluids of all mammals. Some Igs act as cell surface receptors and others are antibodies that travel in the blood or lymph. Ig molecules have two functional regions, one that binds antigens and another that controls effector functions, such as binding to host cells. Structurally, Igs have two identical heavy polypeptide chains and two identical light polypeptide chains that are linked by disulfide bonds. The heavy chains determine an Ig′s class and subclass (isotype). Most higher mammals have five different classes of immunoglobulins: IgG, IgA, IgM, IgD, and IgE. CALBIOCHEM™ immunoglobulins are rigorously analyzed for purity and identity. Most immunoglobulin products are tested by immunodiffusion, immunoelectrophoresis, and SDS-PAGE.
